“The Arab Spring was major news throughout the early part of the year. We were all interested in how this region of oppressed populations pushed the freedom movement forward. It would have been a mistake to ignore it” explained Patrick Gomont, Mayor of Bayeux and co-organizer of the festival with his friend and accomplice Jean-Léonce Dupont, Président of the Calvados region. 15 oversized prints selected by curator and photographer Laurent Van der Stockt decorated this small Normandy city’s walls in honor of the occasion.

This 18th edition was also rich in exhibitions notably featuring last year’s winner Véronique de Viguerie with her reportage The Oil Wars of Nigeria, Titouan Lamazou with Africans of the Great Lakes, and Stanley Green with pictures and videos about his book Black Passport. A sneak preview of Danfung Dennis’ Hell and Back Again, a full-length feature film about the front-lines in Afghanistan made entirely with a digital camera, was also projected.

The final evening was devoted to the awards ceremony with awards attributed to Yuri Kozyrev of the Noor Agency both for 1st prize selected by professionals and 1st prize selected by the public! After his Visa d’Or for the same story about the “Arab Spring”, this co-founder of Noor was well recognized for this fine story.
